Become a mentor

Advise, encourage, and coach UW innovators on the path to commercialization

CoMotion offers a variety of opportunities for mentors to get involved and connect with University of Washington researchers on their path to commercialization or in the early stages of a startup company.

Becoming a member of the UW CoMotion Mentor Guild connects local business mentors to faculty, researchers, students, and resident startups – the next generation of innovators. These innovators need guidance along their journey. That’s where you come in. Are you energized by sharing your expertise? Do you enjoy keeping your finger on the pulse of emerging science and technology? Do you like helping academic teams find business solutions? To apply to become a CoMotion Mentor Guild member, go to our CoMotion Advisory Solutions community page and join as a Mentor.

How it works

Mentor guild levels

There are three engagement levels in the CoMotion Mentor Guild. All mentors begin as Coaches. With time, experience and positive feedback, mentors may be invited to become Catalyzers or Company Builders.

  • Coach – Community mentor
  • Catalyzer – Business strategist, subject area expert
  • Company Builder – CXO-at-large

Mentor tracks

Once you’ve joined the CoMotion Mentor Guild, you may also pursue mentoring options within our tracks:

  • CoMotion Advisory Solutions (UW Individuals & Teams)
  • CoMotion Labs

Coming soon: a track for entrepreneurial students hosted by the UW’s Arthur W. Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship.
