UW Innovation Month is back!

Written by CoMotion Staff / April 30, 2025

Dozens of events celebrate innovation across disciplines

Last spring, CoMotion launched the first-ever UW Innovation Month, a campus-wide celebration of the innovation that happens everywhere, every day, at the University of Washington. We rounded up dozens of events throughout the month that united people around new discoveries, original ideas, and fresh approaches to societal challenges. We imagined new heights in our fields and communities.

UW Innovation Month is back this May, featuring a slate of more than 60 events across our three campuses and across disciplines, including lectures, symposia, capstone showcases, art exhibitions, concerts, and more. We hope you’ll review the week-by-week calendar and develop a plan that reflects your interests and curiosities; we also encourage you to attend an event outside your comfort zone. You never know what ideas or connections it might spark.

Here are some of our top picks:

  • May 2 and 9: Fundamentals for Startups, a CoMotion Labs production. The final two installments of our weekly lunch-and-learn series for the academic year focus on entering the defense tech sector and exploring tax considerations for early-stage startups.
  • May 9: School of Engineering & Technology Research Showcase at UW Tacoma. Join CoMotion Innovation Manager Judy Bridges for a panel discussion on research and industry.
  • May 15: Husky PitchFest is a new matchmaking event for founders and aspiring founders to connect with collaborators and supporters. It offers an evening of lightning pitches and festive networking, along with prizes for top performers.
  • May 22: Dempsey Startup Competition Final Round. This annual event, organized by the Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship, showcases student entrepreneurs refining their pitches, developing business plans, and competing for prize money.

The end of the spring quarter is always a time for reflection and taking stock of how far we’ve come over the past year. Innovation Month focuses on shifting our attention toward the future, embracing optimism, and utilizing our skills, knowledge, and passions to imagine a brighter world for all.
