What is your startup all about?
Our mission is to make pediatric healthcare more accessible. Earaches are miserable for everyone involved, and consequently pediatric ear infections and related conditions are among the largest drivers of pediatric healthcare visits. We are seeking to cut down on the time to diagnosis and treatment, while simultaneously reducing costs and unnecessary antibiotic usage. Our smartphone app can promptly and accurately diagnose fluid behind the ear drum, which is one of the main components of an acute ear infection. This technology, provided to parents and in partnerhship with established telemedicine players, will enable the diagnosis and treatment of ear infections that occur remotely, cutting down on office visits and ensuring antibiotics don’t get prescribed unnecessarily.
What problem do you solve?
Telemedicine companies are not able to evaluate and treat ear infections today because there is no way to complete a remote physical exam of the ear. Our app’s output, in combination with a few clinical questions, allows the remote management of ear infections and improved antibiotic stewardship.
What’s the latest?
We are currently gathering initial clinical data to establish the accuracy of our product’s measurement capabilities. This data will support an FDA filing for a 510k clearance on the app. In parallel, we are rapidly prototyping improvements that we believe will support our customer’s needs.
Startup Advice: Expect to wear many different hats in a startup and go well outside your job description. Buy into the mission of the company since it’s going to be a wild ride.
