
University of Washington Ranked 19th for Worldwide Universities Granted U.S. Patents for 2015
CoMotion at the University of Washington is focused on moving innovation from idea to impact. In fact, approximately 50% of its patent portfolio is licensed, a higher than average number compared to other universities, and one which reflects its commitment to quality of patents.

IPO’s 33rd consecutive annual Top 300 Patent Owners list of organizations that received the most U.S. utility patents during 2015 was also recently released. The top 10 universities on the 2015 Top 100 Universities list also appear in the 2015 Top 300 Patent Owners list.

SEATTLE, WA (Jul. 12, 2016)— The University of Washington (UW) is #19 in the ranking of Top Worldwide Universities Granted U.S. Utility Patents for 2015. The report, which is published by the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) and Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO), utilizes data acquired from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to highlight the important role patents play in university research and innovation.
The NAI and IPO have published the report annually since 2013. The rankings are compiled by calculating the number of utility patents granted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office which lists a university as the first assignee on the printed patent.
