Bunker Labs has officially expanded to Seattle and has taken up residence within CoMotion Labs @ Startup Hall. Bunker Labs is a 501(c)3 organization built by military veteran entrepreneurs to help other military veterans start and grow businesses. Veterans in the Seattle region interested in starting their own businesses will now have access to resources, programs, and curriculum at Bunker Labs Seattle. UW CoMotion is excited about this partnership and committed to joining Bunker Labs on their mission to empower transitioning veterans and changing the veteran narrative.
GeekWire recently covered the new Bunker Labs launch including interviews with two of the co-founders of the Bunker Labs Seattle Chapter in addition to profiling Travis Stanley-Jones, a veteran entrepreneur who recently launched Umami Jobs, a site for the restaurant and bar industry to find future employees that utilizes video posts in lieu of conventional resumes and written postings. Additionally, KNKX also featured Bunker Labs Seattle on their morning show earlier this week. The radio clip was able to illuminate the huge opportunity that Bunker Labs provides for transitioning veterans. Johannes Schonberg, one of the co-founders of Bunker Labs Seattle, explained that military veterans actually possess many of the essential characteristics of a successful entrepreneur such as risk-taking, perseverance, and teamwork but do not feel sufficiently supported to take the leap of opening their own business. Bunker Labs fills this void by providing veterans the necessary empowerment and support they need to explore entrepreneurship.
To commemorate the launching of this new local chapter, Bunker Labs Seattle will host The Muster Seattle on May 5, 2017 to highlight and empower local veteran entrepreneurs. This event, part of the Muster Across America Tour sponsored by JP Morgan Chase & Co., is designed to connect veterans in business, empower the Seattle entrepreneurial ecosystem, and foster growth, knowledge, and success. The event will feature expert talks and panel discussions, a pitch stage where veteran entrepreneurs can compete for the title of “top startup,” and a post-event networking reception. RSVP here.
