CoMotion Labs: Where are we now? An update

This past June, CoMotion announced the opening of its new headquarters (HQ) in addition to its newest startup incubator space focusing on early-stage virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) startups. Since then, CoMotion Labs @ HQ now houses 15 different VR/AR startups, possesses a fully operational mixed reality lab, and has served as the hub for a variety of different community events such as Seattle Startup Week and the Seattle VR/AR Collective meetup.

CoMotion Labs @ HQ was the third startup incubator to join the CoMotion Labs family. Before June, CoMotion Labs was comprised of two other startup incubators: CoMotion Labs @ Fluke Hall and CoMotion Labs @ Startup Hall.

CoMotion Labs @ Fluke Hall, the original CoMotion incubator (opened in 2012), is now home to 26 different startups in the healthcare, biotech, clean tech, engineering, and hardware industries. Additionally, CoMotion Labs @ Fluke Hall provides private offices, a wet lab, and is home to our CoMotion MakerSpace.

CoMotion Labs @ Startup Hall (opened in 2014) is our startup incubator that houses IT and software startups. Currently, 31 different startups call CoMotion Labs @ Startup Hall home. Additionally, CoMotion Labs @ Startup Hall is the headquarters of Techstars Seattle, Techstars startup programs, Founder’s Co-Op, and the new Amazon Alexa startup accelerator.

Just this past January, CoMotion also announced the addition of CoMotion Labs @ Spokane. CoMotion Labs @ Spokane is a virtual incubator, meaning while it may lack a physical space for startups to work from it offers the same programming, mentoring, advising, and events as the other CoMotion Labs spaces.

CoMotion Labs provides a multi-industry lab system hosting startups both inside and outside the UW community. We average between 50-80 startups in our incubators at any given time, each company employing 2 to 15 people. We are a startup program that provides space, learning, networks, and services and we truly value the relationship with our startups. We will collaborate with you on every step of your company’s journey: from the pre-seed stage all the way until your growth stage.

We are not on the cohort model, nor do we take any equity or IP. Startups, entrepreneurs, innovators, and artists can join our program year round. If you and your company are interested in joining our CoMotion Labs community, please contact cmlabs@uw.edu.
